The Sheregeshskaya mine has completed the first stage of construction of wastewater treatment facilities at the outlet to the Bolshoy Unzas River (a left tributary of the Mrassu River). The maximum capacity of the equipment is 700 m3 of water per hour. Almost 100 million rubles were allocated for the implementation of the project. EVRAZ implements environmental projects in conjunction with the expansion of iron ore production.

The implemented environmental project will significantly increase the degree of purification for solid substances and petroleum products. Currently, the cleaning of suspended particles, sludge and sand reaches 98%, for petroleum products-90%.

Water purification is carried out by settling and adding reagents, which are fed through special pipelines. The infrastructure of the facilities includes two settling ponds with a capacity of 4.5 thousand m3 each, two sewage pumping stations, two modular buildings for reagent preparation, a chlorination plant and a modular building for personnel.

EVRAZ plans to start reconstruction of the treatment facilities at the Tashtagol mine located on the Tomi tributary, Kondome, in the summer of 2021. And the Abagur processing plant, located on a Condominium downstream, is already operating in a closed cycle without wastewater discharge. Then the company plans to build the second stage of sewage treatment plants at Sheregeshskaya.

The second stage of construction of wastewater treatment plants involves the installation of additional modules for post-treatment of mine water. Its preliminary construction is estimated at 300-400 million rubles. These investments should provide a significant reduction in the environmental burden while increasing ore production.
