Kuzbass Polytechnic University (a member of the Kuzbass REC) is one of the best participants in the Three Sciences Tournament, a student federal project organized with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation. Students of the technical university participated in it for the first time and showed a good level of training.

Recall that in November 2020, the national team of KuzSTU entered the top three among the participants of the Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts in the regional stage of the Tournament of Three Sciences. And in the final of the federal stage, which took place in December 2020, the team confirmed its status. According to the number of points scored, KuzSTU became one of the strongest teams in Siberia.

The federal final was held over four days in an online format. KuzSTU was presented by students of the Institute of Chemical and Oil and Gas Technologies. These are senior students with extensive experience in participating in scientific events and active first-year students, all of whom study well and are fond of science: Anastasia Cherepova (captain), Dmitry Romanov, Yana Morozova and Lilia Solovyova.

– For the final victory in the tournament, we did not have enough experience in participating in such events and time for experiments. The subjects that we studied at the university, especially physics, helped in solving problems, and scientific activities-in finding reliable information and communicating with opponents, the jury, " said Yana Morozova.

In intellectual battles, participants solved non-standard problems from a school or university course in physics, chemistry, and biology, and tasks at the intersection of these sciences - for quickness. For example, to identify the dependence of the rate of weathering of gas from carbonated beverages or the dependence of taste and smell on the composition of the product and the process of its preparation. Also tasks "Freezing soap bubbles", "Wine tears", etc

.

For fourth-year student Lilia Solovyova, the most interesting thing was to determine the speed of communication in a colony of worms. To do this, the student conducted experiments on live potato nematodes.

– I was preparing the bait and timing the time it would take the worms to find it. The experts liked my solution. I was also offered to use substances that roundworms use to communicate with each other. However, these chemicals are hard to find here. I would like to participate again, it's interesting, although it takes a lot of time.

The final of the Three Sciences Tournament brought together the winners of regional stages, students of leading universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk and other cities of all federal districts of the country. Despite the first experience of participation, the KuzSTU team performed well, the result was a cup, diploma, certificates and memorable prizes.

In 2020, the event was held under a grant from the President of the Russian Federation, provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation. The co-organizers were the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Laboratory of Scientific and Educational Projects, and others.
