Arctic REC has launched a workshop for the production of feed for aquaculture

The project is being implemented with the joint participation and financial support of the Government of the Arkhangelsk region, which has allocated funds for the purchase of equipment, as well as industrial partners of the REC "Russian Arctic".

- In 2021, when it all started, we needed support for such a large-scale direction, and we made such a decision, - said Viktor Ikonnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk region. - Positive responses from industrial partners have already gone by 2022.

Today, the interest of regional business is visible in the implementation of this project.

An experimental installation will not cover all the needs of a rapidly growing market. But the proven technologies will allow us to scale the production of fish feed. According to the results of studies of reservoirs in the Arkhangelsk region, the Pomeranian government has formed more than 50 sites for aquaculture for potential investors.

- This means that in addition to the nine farms that are currently operating in the region, there will be new ones that will also need feed, - said Irina Bazhanova, Minister of Agriculture and Trade of the Arkhangelsk region. – We hope that in addition to what we already have, we will develop starter feeds for fry, which is also very important.

At the preliminary stage, a team of university scientists within the framework of the REC project created four recipes of fish feeds that are not inferior in quality to imported analogues.

- They have already been tested and there are patents. They need to be examined for productivity - how effective the weight gain of fish is given by these feeds, - said the scientific director of the REC "Russian Arctic" Marat Yeseev. - Our interest is, first of all, the development of aquaculture in the closed water supply system.

The task of scientists is to create in Arkhangelsk not only a scientific base for research, but also to launch a pilot project in which import substitution technologies will be worked out.

- A year ago, the logistics chains that everyone is used to disappeared. Scientists of our university have proved that we can make our own unique recipes using domestic raw materials, - said Elena Kudryashova, Rector of the Lomonosov NArFU. - We are at the beginning of the road, but we are very pleased with the dynamics of the development of this project.
