30/03/2021
On March 29, 2021, the heads of five Nizhny Novgorod universities signed an agreement on the creation of an interuniversity laboratory of neurophysiology and cognitive research.

A single laboratory for five universities will be created in the region for the first time. The agreement was signed by the Rector of PIMU Nikolay Karyakin, the Director of the Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod Anna Blyakhman, the rector of Lobachevsky UNN Elena Zagainova, the rector of Dobrolyubov NGLU Zhanna Nikonova and the rector of NSPU. Kozma Minina Viktor Sdobnyakov.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Sanosyan and Head of the Nizhny Novgorod REC Igor Fedyushkin.

"As a result of combining the efforts of universities, a laboratory will be created to study the peculiarities of mental health of children and adults. Such an association is precisely the main task of the Nizhny Novgorod REC. It is necessary to combine the strengths of educational institutions and enterprises under the auspices of a single platform in order to achieve maximum success. There is an inner confidence that combining leadership competencies will allow us to achieve results that will be recognized at the world level, " said Andrey Sanosyan.

Igor Fedyushkin, in turn, noted that the brain is a complex system, and in order to truly know it, you need equipment more advanced than yourself.

"Of course, we don't have such equipment yet, but it seems to me that by combining different scientific schools and approaches to studying brain activity, a breakthrough in understanding the processes that occur in the human head is possible," he stressed.

The laboratory will be created on the basis of the Volga Region Medical University, in a building on Nevzorovykh Street in Nizhny Novgorod. It was transferred to the university by the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2020 for the development of a center for working with children with autism. It is planned to allocate one of the floors of the building for the laboratory.

"Each of the universities will contribute to the creation of the laboratory. We are talking about equipment and staffing. It is very important that it is created on the basis of a clinical site, that is, the laboratory will not be disconnected from real life, but will work for the benefit of those people who need help today, " said Nikolai Karyakin.

The creation of the laboratory will take place within the framework of the district project "Mental Health" under the supervision of the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, as well as within the framework of the Nizhny Novgorod REC.

Recall that by the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, 2021 is recognized as the Year of Science and Technology. The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin earlier stressed that this decision is particularly important for our region.
