EVRAZ (industrial partner of REC <Kuzbass>) will build a modern foundry and rolling complex in Novokuznetsk

7/06/2021

EVRAZ and the Government of Kuzbass signed an agreement on cooperation within the framework of the construction project of a foundry and rolling complex (LPC) at EVRAZ ZSMK. This investment project will expand the production line of the plant at the expense of products with high added value and provide Russian and global consumers with flat rental of a wide range of uses.

It is assumed that the capacity of the LPC will be 2.5 million tons of hot-rolled sheet per year. The construction of the complex will be carried out using continuous hot rolling technology (QSP-DUE). This advanced technology makes it possible to produce hot-rolled rolls with a thickness of 0.8 to 16 mm with a unique surface quality and with minimal variability in the geometric characteristics of the products.

Investments in the project are estimated at about $650 million, the launch of the complex is scheduled for 2025. Thanks to the implementation of the project, over 350 new jobs will be created at the plant.

"The foundry and rolling complex at EVRAZ ZSMK will provide consumers in Siberia, the Urals and the Far East, as well as on the world market, with high-quality hot-rolled sheet. The environmental component of the project is also important: the technology of continuous hot rolling will ensure maximum energy efficiency and minimum greenhouse gas emissions per ton of rolled products compared to other technologies for the production of flat rolled products," said Alexey Ivanov, Senior Vice President of EVRAZ for Commerce and Business Development.

"The agreement will become another factor in the development of non-coal industries. It is important that EVRAZ is one of the participants of the national project "Ecology" in Novokuznetsk. Only in the jubilee year for Kuzbass in 2021, the company will allocate 600 million rubles for the implementation of the Clean Air program," said the Governor of Kuzbass, Sergey Tsivilev.
