The annual ecological forum "Green Living Room" was held in Kuzbass. The topic of the round table was "Kuzbass Climate Agenda: National and Corporate context". Maxim Epifantsev, Head of the Directorate for the Coordination of Environmental Activities of EVRAZ, spoke about the company's strategy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions for coal and metallurgical enterprises.
The company's steel mills have set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, and total emissions into the atmosphere by 33%. It is planned to recycle 95% of general and metallurgical waste and reduce wastewater discharge to zero.
Within the framework of the federal Clean Air project, EVRAZ launched a new dust and gas cleaning plant at the overhauled blast furnace No. 6 of EVRAZ NTMK, upgraded the electric filters at the ZAPSIBTETS EVRAZ ZSMK. The implementation of environmental measures will continue until 2024. Investments will amount to about 6.4 billion rubles.
EVRAZ coal miners are faced with the task of disposing of methane generated during the degassing of mines by 75% and reducing dust emissions during transportation and storage of coal by 35%. Two flare-type installations for burning methane have already been installed at the Alardinskaya mine. Each is capable of disposing of up to 50 m3 of methane-air mixture per minute. By 2026, 25 similar installations will be installed at the mines of the Raspadskaya Coal Company (RUK, manages the coal assets of EVRAZ).
At the second stage of the environmental project, the company faces the task of generating thermal energy from methane. In 2022, the possibility of installing and putting into operation a container gas boiler house, the fuel for which will be methane, is being considered. Thermal energy will be directed to heating the air supplied to the mine workings.
"Green Living Room" is an annual event with the participation of representatives of environmental structures, industrial enterprises, municipal authorities, environmentalists.
