Information about new candidates for inclusion in the UNESCO Global Network of Geoparks in 2021 has been published on the UNESCO website. Among the 16 territories that were included in the official assessment process, there is also an application from the Toratau Geopark.

"As soon as the application is accepted and the place is "staked out" in UNESCO, it becomes a candidate and is called " aspiring "(aspiring). Now we are waiting for the evaluation of our nomination dossier and the arrival of experts, presumably this summer," comments Ainur Samanov, General Director of the Toratau Geopark.

The documents listed on the UNESCO website provide a geological and geographical summary, including a detailed map showing the location of each applicant.

In particular, a geopark from Bashkiria became the only Russian bidder. Other candidates include Croatia's Biokovo Park, Japan's Hakusan Tedorigawa, Turkey's Ida Madra and others.

It should be noted that the project for the development of the Toratau geopark is included in the program of activities of the Eurasian REC. Within the framework of the "New Living Environment" direction, geoparks are planned to be developed as objects of geological, cultural, historical and natural heritage of international significance in the territory of Bashkortostan.
