Arrhythmology surgeons of the CPSSP Research Institute (a member of the Kuzbass Research Center) have implemented an effective technique-implantation of a subcutaneous defibrillator in patients with high surgical risk.

"This technology is new in Russia, our center is among the top 5 clinics that have started using it. Traditionally, a defibrillator is inserted into the heart cavity, but now it is possible to do it subcutaneously, reducing the risk of complications, " says Sergey Mamchur, Head of the Laboratory of Cardiac Arrhythmias and Electrocardiostimulation, MD.

A high-tech and safe way to prevent sudden deaths has good results. The first implantations of subcutaneous defibrillators were performed in December 2020 in five patients with end-stage chronic heart failure, their condition is stable. The procedures were performed by arrhythmology surgeons Egor Khomenko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Nikita Bohan, Kirill Bakovsky.

A procedure that prevents the development of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias is not suitable for all patients with arrhythmia. It has clear indications, and strict selection for treatment is being conducted.
