Nizhny Novgorod scientists are working on creating a number of vaccines against actual viral infections, including vaccines against HIV, coronavirus, norovirus and rotavirus
"The molecular platform of the coronavirus vaccine is based on the use of non-infectious chimeric viral particles that carry parts of norovirus and coronavirus. The developed vaccine differs from others in that it is a mucosal vaccine, that is, nasal drops applicable to children and the elderly, " said the head of the Immunochemistry Laboratory of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. Academician I. N. Blokhina of RospotrebnadzorViktor Novikov.
As Viktor Novikov noted, rotavirus and norovirus infections are the dominant intestinal infections in children. If there are vaccines for rotavirus infection abroad, then there are no vaccines for norovirus infection. The prototype vaccine developed in Nizhny Novgorod for the prevention of these infections is based on the same principles as against coronavirus.
Another area of the project is the HIV vaccine. Scientists from Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg have already worked on its creation. Now they have teamed up and together with their Nizhny Novgorod colleagues have prepared an action program to complete the development of the vaccine. The proposed approach will make it possible to obtain a highly competitive, effective world-class vaccine.
Specialists of the world-class Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center are currently looking for partners to implement the project in everyday life.
"We have already held negotiations with the Volga Research Medical University, which is ready to support us in conducting preclinical and clinical trials. We are also working to attract Russian investors, who can also act as a production site. Of course, we are supported by the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, which is interested in implementing such an important project, including from a social point of view, " said the head of the analysis department of ANO Nizhny Novgorod RECAlexander Tarasenko.
