On February 2-4, the Ural State Forestry Engineering University (UGTU) hosts the XIII International Scientific and Technical Conference "Effective response to modern challenges, taking into account the interaction of man and nature: man and technology: socio-economic and environmental problems of the forest complex". The event is timed to coincide with the Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation and the upcoming Day of Russian Science.

Participating partners of the West Siberian Interregional Scientific and Educational Center (SEC) of the Tyumen Region, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District made presentations at the plenary session of the conference. The West Siberian Interregional Scientific and Educational Center presents current and prospective projects in the field of forest science, in particular, on the protection of seedlings of forest species with a closed root system (WCS) in industrial greenhouses.

The projects are being implemented jointly by UGSTU and TSU with an industrial partner – Synergy LLC, a new large company established in 2018 to implement full-cycle projects: from wood harvesting to industrial waste disposal.

"Close coordination of scientific research and specific production tasks in order to obtain new products and technologies that are competitive in the market is a distinctive feature of REC projects," said Andrey Tolstikov, First Vice – rector of TSU, in his speech.

At the meeting, the issue of creating carbon landfills and farms under the auspices of the West Siberian Interregional REC on the basis of TSU aroused great interest. The basis for the research and experimental work will be the significant groundwork accumulated at TSU in the field of soil biology, as well as the new laboratories being developed for megagrant projects under the leadership of leading scientists.
