SAFU students were offered to improve their knowledge and skills at the ACBC Forest seed center

The proposal to create scientific and educational mini-groups for interaction with the forest seed center of the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill with the participation of 3rd-year students of the Higher School of Natural Sciences and Technologies of the NArFU was made during a meeting with experts (workshop) dedicated to the effective cooperation of the REC "Russian Arctic with industrial partners within the framework of the project "Technologies of integrated reforestation".

The idea was voiced by Alexander Guryev, professor of the Department of Pulp and Paper and Wood Chemical Industries of the SAFU, who, as a researcher-practitioner, is already working on the same project with a large timber holding company. At the meeting, he presented a promising development - biodegradable cassettes for growing planting material from waste generated during the production of cellulose. Now they are undergoing laboratory testing and may soon be included in the production cycle of the reforestation technology of the ACBC and the Titan Group of companies, according to which the forest seed center being created in Novodvinsk will grow 9 million seedlings of coniferous species with a closed root system.

"All search, laboratory and research surveys are done at the sites of the REC and the university. But researchers who work in one direction or another come to Novodvinsk. Recently, together with REC and university specialists, we presented an administrative and laboratory building. It has prepared a whole set of rooms where various laboratories can be placed. <...> There are laboratory greenhouses on the territory of the university, which will be used as already innovative ones, where various innovative technologies can be tested on industrial lots," said Yuri Trubin, Adviser to the General Director of Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill JSC.

In addition to the premises for conducting research, the forest seed center, according to the plan of its creators, has prepared classrooms for educational tasks just for students of specialized areas of training of the SAFU, in which the interest of production workers is not idle.

"We are ready to support the creation of a pilot mini-group, accompany it even thematically, if it is necessary to link it to the department. We now have walls, beautiful repairs ... Staff will be recruited, seasonal work will be carried out, etc. Let's try it. We at the plant encourage any initiatives of existing specialists in any direction. If you are interested in the nursery, please. Having received basic knowledge at the university, you can improve and implement it here," Yuri Trubin made a concrete proposal to students during the meeting.
