Scientists will discuss issues of human life support in the Arctic in Arkhangelsk

9/11/2022
The results of scientific research aimed at increasing the period of active life of Northerners will be discussed at the forum "Development of the Russian Arctic in the programs of world-class scientific and educational centers", which will be held in Pomorie from 15 until November 17th.

The most important factor affecting the human body is the impact of the environment, ecology and climatic conditions. Scientists of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences will present at the forum a study of the state and diversity of forest ecosystems in the Murmansk region. Based on their results, new data were obtained on the distribution of rare and protected species of plants, fungi and lichens growing in extreme climatic conditions. Recommendations have also been developed for the cleaning and restoration of soils contaminated with petroleum products in high latitudes.

The subject of the study of biologists of Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin became wild, field, vegetable, fruit and berry plants of the Komi Republic.

They are rich in medicinal substances that can, among other things, improve a person's quality of life, help preserve his physical and mental performance. Natural raw materials have a milder effect on the human body, compared with synthetic drugs.

Extracts of pine and fir tree greens are a platform for new medicines in the methods of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its employees are working on the creation of new biologically active substances and pharmaceutical substances for human life support in the Arctic zone.

The scientific staff of the Department of Pharmacology of the Northern State Medical University will present on the sidelines of the forum technologies for obtaining and introducing into the production of drugs, functional nutrition products and medical products based on deep processing of White Sea algae and pine needles. Based on alginic acid extracted from kelp, two types of gels have been developed - skin "Lamidin" (has high wound healing properties) and dental "Arctivit-Dent" (for the prevention and comprehensive treatment of oral diseases). The transfer of drugs to the production site of the SSMU was also carried out.

- Such forums contribute to the convergence of science and production, between which there is a big gap today, - said another of the speakers of the section, Deputy Director General of the agroholding "Belozorie" Alexander Grechany. - Many companies, and there are more and more of them every year, are interested in creating products that contribute to the health of people living in the North. In order for this process to move forward more effectively, it is necessary to further develop the laboratory scientific base with the financial participation of the state and strict control of the results. Preserving and strengthening the health of the population is the basis for the development of human capital, both physical and spiritual, and therefore of the whole society.
