SibGIU scientists have developed an environmentally friendly and resource-saving technology for processing carbon enrichment waste

SibGIU scientists, together with specialists of Sibecotechnika SPC LLC, have developed and are beginning to implement, together with employees of Kuzbassrazrezuglya Management Company JSC and UMMC-Holding OJSC, a technology and a set of equipment for using fine carbon enrichment waste – filter cakes as fuel. The developed technology includes the preparation of suspended coal-water fuel and its combustion in a specialized vortex furnace.

This technology allows not only to obtain heat energy, but also provides environmental protection from "black vortices" in dry weather and "black flows" during rains and snowmelt. Bench tests in the presence of representatives of JSC UK "Kuzbassrazrezugol" and JSC "UMMC-Holding" were held in the block of heavy laboratories of the university. The unique project will help miners to solve the issue of coal enrichment waste disposal and get cheap fuel.

"Our factories have accumulated significant stocks of waste in the form of filter cakes. Today, JSC Kuzbassrazrezugol is looking for opportunities for their utilization, and one of the promising areas is fuel combustion, which was developed by SibGIU scientists as part of R&D," says Anatoly Papchenkov, Head of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Energy Audit of JSC UMMC, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

Senior students Evgeny Shegolev and Vitaly Vishnyak (MT-19 IMiM group, Department of Heat Engineering and Thermal Power Engineering) take part in the project.
