Unique turbine-driven grinding machines developed by Nizhny Novgorod scientists

The team of the Department "Power plants and heat engines" of NSTU worked on the project for more than 30 years.

Unlike its foreign counterparts, the Nizhny Novgorod development is much more compact, lighter and cheaper at the same capacity. The minimum price is 20 thousand rubles. For comparison, the cost of a German-made car starts from 80 thousand rubles.

According to one of the authors of the project, Sergey Khrunkov, Head of the Department of Power Plants and Heat Engines at NSTU named after R. E. Alekseev, the new equipment allows to reduce the time of work several times.

"We have developed a new type of pneumatic microturbines. For the first time, we used a radial turbine in our devices, where the flow moves perpendicular to the axis of rotation, in contrast to existing analogues, which are based on axial turbines with the flow moving along the axis of rotation. All "turbinists" know that you can't do this. And no one does. And we tried, and we succeeded, " said Sergey Khrunkov.

Another advantage of the Nizhny Novgorod development is that due to the absence of vibration, the possibility of diseases associated with this phenomenon is excluded. Such occupational diseases affect specialists who work even with modern grinding machines.

An experimental batch of cars has already been tested at Russian enterprises. Among them, for example, are OKBM Afrikantov JSC and Krasnoe Sormovo Shipyard. The next stage is the search for buyers. Specialists of the Nizhny Novgorod world-class Scientific and Educational Center (Nizhny Novgorod SEC) help scientists in this process.

"We analyzed the market and prepared a list of potentially interested customers of the technology, reworked the existing commercial offer and began to interact with companies. At the moment, we have already held negotiations with companies from Nizhny Novgorod, a large Bryansk enterprise. Not so long ago, we were also contacted by a large Khimki enterprise, which is ready to purchase a trial batch of grinding machines, " said Vladislav Krasheninnikov, an analyst at the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Research Center.

The authors of the project said that it is already possible to produce hundreds of units of a new type of grinding equipment with the support of a partner enterprise. If necessary, it will be possible to increase the volume several times in about a month and a half.

As the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin reported earlier, the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize 2021 as the Year of Science and Technology is especially important for our region.

"The Nizhny Novgorod region has always developed thanks to the close connection between higher education, science and the real sector of the economy. Our region consistently ranks among the top five in the country in terms of educational potential. It is no coincidence that in the Nizhny Novgorod region, within the framework of the national project "Science", a world-class scientific and educational center was created among the first in the country. It combines science, industry, business, and education and is a truly creative space. In total, about 90 thousand people study at universities in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The region has a huge potential in the field of science and technology, for its development.
