Ufa State Petroleum Technological University took part in the development of the FlowMax flushing sub

A team of scientists from the World-class Scientific Center (NCMU) "Rational development of the planet's liquid hydrocarbon reserves", which includes the Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, has developed the FlowMax flushing sub. The invention has been successfully tested at Total (USA)

Pilot tests were carried out at 9 wells of the company in West Texas. The use of FlowMax helped to improve cuttings transport efficiency and prevent cuttings from accumulating in the well. This reduces the Equivalent Circulation Density (EDS) by 0.5-1 lb / gal. The development of Russian scientists made it possible to exclude reverse development of the wellbore and save about a day for the construction of one well.

The peculiarity of the development is in the correct location of the jet sleeves, which has a 0% impact on the reservoir.

FlowMax is a direct competitor to the Schlumberger Well Commander and has a number of advantages: unlimited activation and deactivation cycles (no need to drop the ball), and also does not reduce the inner diameter of the string - a two-inch hole provides the ability to actuate the reamers of the BHA ( BHA) and does not require special personnel on the drilling platform.

FlowMax can be used in double gradient drilling in deep water wells. The development meets the requirements of the DS-1 cat. 5., and the quality is confirmed by the independent company TH Hill Associates.

Radmir Ganiev, a scientist from the Ufa State Oil Technical University, took part in the development on behalf of the world-class scientific center "Rational development of the planet's liquid hydrocarbon reserves".

Successful testing, with appropriate funding, will make it possible to count on the organization of the production of unique equipment in the territory of Bashkortostan and provide services for drilling horizontal wells.

Such technologies are especially in demand when drilling wells in offshore fields, including in the Arctic. Preparations for patenting this technology in the Russian Federation will begin in the near future.

For reference:

In August 2020, the World-Class Scientific Center (NTSMU) "Rational Development of the Planet's Liquid Hydrocarbon Reserves" won a federal competition and received government support and funding for development. Grant support from the state helps to support the development of world-class domestic research centers that carry out developments in priority areas.

The NCMU project "Rational development of the planet's liquid hydrocarbon reserves" was created in the format of a consortium. It included:

Kazan Federal University,

Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin,

Ufa State Petroleum Technical University,

Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.
